"Everything was unusual about him"

Dublin goalkeeping legend Paddy Cullen says Stephen Cluxton had a rare off day on Sunday.

The Dubs No.1 made more mistakes in the second half of the drawn All-Ireland semi-final than he'd normally make in a season; Cullen was at a loss to explain it:

"He's a terrific guy for taking on responsibility and it doesn't seem to bother him. If you want to take it on, you take it on - but these things can take their toll," he states in The Irish Daily Star.

"He has a lot going on and it was most unusual for him to do things that he did on Sunday. It was most unusual for him to miss three frees. Everything was unusual about him. A few frees, a few kick-outs that he didn't get right - he normally gets everything right.

"Mayo pushed up, Dublin players were marked, he couldn't find a man and that frustrates him. The kicking of the frees really is a strange thing - it's something that he does almost with his eyes closed. But he didn't seem as confident on Sunday as he usually is with his kicking.

"Put it down to Stephen having an off-day. All goalkeepers are a little bit eccentric, a little bit mad, have off-days and do things that aren't in the book."
