Ger Brennan has joined Fianna Fail but says he is too busy to run in next year's General Election.

The all-conquering Dublin footballer has enlisted with his local Cumann on Dublin's northside but will resist party pressure to put his name forward as a candidate in the Dublin Central constituency.

"The larger picture is that you never know what the future holds but certainly in the next few years it's not my focus," the St Vincent's clubman told The Irish Examiner.

"If you were to follow me around in my life for a couple of days you'd see how busy it is in terms of work and sports. I'd rarely get ten minutes for myself so there wouldn't be a chance of me doing that.

"For me it would be the north central area where I would look to get involved and try to help them out there. I don't know what they are trying to do really but I have a general interest

"Certainly if I had the time I would be supporting whatever they would be doing. But sometimes I have no idea what I'm doing from one week to the next - football definitely dictates my life. If they do put a candidate forward, I certainly would look to help them."
