I'd have helped against Donegal - Brennan

Ger Brennan feels that he could have made a difference to Dublin in their defensive collapse against Donegal in this year's All-Ireland SFC semi-final.

Brennan captained St Vincent's to a second Dublin SFC title on Monday night but missed the crucial stages of the Metropolitans' All-Ireland campaign this past summer due to injury and was forced to look on in August when Jim Gavin's team shipped three goals against the Ulster champions.

"Jim and his management team had a game plan. If we look at ourselves honestly, players probably didn't stick to that for the full amount of time," Brennan told the Irish Daily Star.

"Is there some areas we could have learned from, offensively and defensively? Absolutely and I suppose that's learning that Jim and the management team will have to take into the next campaign going forward.

"I don't know. I'd love to have been playing, of course I'd love to have been playing. Would I have done things different? I'd like to think I could have."

He added: "In fairness to Jim he gives everyone their opportunity to prove their fitness and I can't say enough for how well he's treated me in that regard.

"I suppose in my own mind set I feel no regrets because I did everything that was asked of me in terms of recovery and I pushed myself as hard as I could and the body just wasn't ready there at the end."

Brennan and his club mates are now looking forward to a mouth-watering showdown with Portlaoise in the Leinster club SFC and says that the Laois champions will "relish the challenge" after losing last year's provincial final to them.
