Fellow gael seeking help and support
January 23, 2012
A fellow Gael by the name of Brian Sharkey is looking for some support and help to raise funds for the Transplant Unit at Beaumont hospital.
Only last March Brian saved his Mum's life by donating one of his kidneys. The operation was completed by Dr Noel Hickey, a selector on the Dublin Senior Football Team. Brian played for St Marks at all levels in Football and Hurling winning a number of honours, representing Dublin in underage Hurling and Football before moving to Scotland to study and work. Prior to the operation Brian played with Glasgow Gaels winning the Scottish Championship in 2006 scoring 4 points in injury time to claim the cup for the Gaels.
Due to the nature of the operation Brian has been recommended not to participate in any physical contact sports. Brian is hoping to raise some funds for the Transplant Unit at Beaumont Hospital as a small gesture of thanks for the care and support both he and his Mum received during this time and has started to train for the Edinburgh marathon on the 27th of May 2012. Brian and his family are looking to raise as much money as possible.
