Waterford GAA Supporters Club Dublin Golf Classic
August 23, 2010The Waterford GAA Supporters Club, Dublin held their annual fundraising Golf Classic on Friday August 20 at Killeen Golf Club in Kildare. After a dodgy start, the event was once again blessed with good weather leading to an enjoyable day for all on his excellent course. We were honoured not only to have the Munster Senior Hurling Cup proudly on display but to have county hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald and selector Pat Bennett, along with their respective sons Colm and Stephen as our playing guests. Indeed, the Fitzgerald/Bennett combination proceeded to carry off the first prize with a superb score of 91 points to provide some consolation for the setback in Croke Park the previous Sunday.
Pipped at the post were event stalwarts Humphrey Kelleher and Matty Cronin and partners who were just one point behind on 90 points. In third place on 88 points were the Keereen Building Services team who squeezed out the R&R Racing outfit from Abbeyside on the back 9. The Front 9 prize went to the Avila team with the Back 9 going to O'Brien Sliotars from Waterford. Nearest the Pin went to John Maher of the Orpen Franks Solicitors team while top prize in the Twos Club draw (which had an impressive nine qualifiers) went to Dermot Kelly of the Keereen Building Services team. The draw for two All-Ireland hurling tickets went to St. Mollerans veteran Jimmy Flynn from the Noel Kelly/Kentz team.
The Supporters Club thanks all the teams who entered the competition, all those who donated prizes for the competition and who sponsored teeboxes. All proceeds from the event will go to the development of Gaelic Games in County Waterford.
