Down's Danny Hughes
Danny Hughes is on course to feature in Down's Ulster SFC quarter-final against Fermanagh on June 3 after helping the Mournemen to a 5-7 to 1-11 victory over Armagh in a SF challenge yesterday.

The former All Star half forward returned from a hamstring injury to score Down's opening goal in the local derby clash which marked the opening of St. Paul's GAA club's new facilities in Lurgan. Kevin Duffin and Eoin McCartan also scored two goals each for the visitors. James Kingham accounted for the Orchard County's goal.

"It's nice to get a run-out and give the boys a game, but I won't be getting carried away," Down boss James McCartan told The Irish News.

"We seem to win these skirmishes against Armagh, but they win the important ones. We have lost a couple of big players for the championship (including Benny Coulter), so we are looking for some of the lesser known names to step up to the plate and a couple of the boys put their hands up today.

"We have won a few challenge games, but all that can be rather meaningless at the end of the day."
