An Riocht GAC Club Notes

* An Riocht Senior Footballers travelled to Annaclone on Friday, and after a two week break, were looking to maintain their unbeaten start to Division Two. An Riocht started brightly and a well taken Chris Killen free put them ahead, before Veteran midfielder Paul Murney pointed well from distance. Killen added another free kick and former County starlet John Clarke extended An Riochts leads to Four, before Aidan Fegan registered the 'Clones first score. An Riocht continued to push forward and Conor Doyle pointed to finish off a team great move. Annaclone finished the half the stronger with points from Kevin Anderson and Colm Fegan, the latter a very debatable one as the ball appeared to have gone wide.
Paddy Cole & Chris Killen pointed on the restart and they proved to be An Riochts only Two scores of the half as Annaclone upped their game, hitting Thirteen wides in a Ten minute spell before Kevin Anderson registered his second, and Annaclones Fourth. An Riocht had chances to increase their lead but wayward shooting and sloppy passing stopped this happening. With Five minutes left Annaclone went in search of a goal, but Benny McArdles looping highball floated over the bar to leave the minimum in it. From the resulting kickout, Annaclone gained possession and broke at pace, worked the ball into a goal-scoring position only to see the ball cannon back of the bar as An Riocht rode their luck. An Riochts disciplined defending was impressive, and they showed a great calmness under pressure and grinded out a hard fough win. Final Score: An Riocht 0-07 Annaclone 0-05
An Riocht Team: Brendan McVeigh, Sean Clarke, Deaglan O'Reilly, Michael Trainor, Paul Sherry, Liam McVeigh, Conor Doyle, Paul Murney, Declan Doyle, Ronan McAlinden, Chris Killen, Rory Cunningham, Paddy Cole, John Clarke, Paddy Gartland. * An Riocht Senior Reseves took on Kilcoo at Dunavil on a Sun Soaked Sunday afternoon. An Riocht fielded a very youthful team and too their credit they impressed, Ryan Speirs and Mark Higgins made their Seconds debut and didn't look out of place and Ryan White continued his good form he's been showing as of late. We would like to wish Paddy Cordell a speedy recovery on the injury he picked up, we hope to see him back soon.

* An Riocht Senior Camogie team took on Ballycran on Monday evening at Dunavil. The home team started brightly and goals from Colleen Fearon, Maria Higgins and Sophie Colgan had them well in front, and Carrie Killen tagged on points to leave An Riocht in the lead at the break. As expected Ballycran didn't lie down and came out fighting in the second half, putting An Riocht under pressure. But two well taken Alana Poland goals steadied An Riocht as they held on for the win. Final Score: An Riocht 5-04 Ballycran 3-02
An Riocht Team: Shaunece Harper, Maria Trainor, Louise Rodgers, Clara Killen, Aine O'Reilly, Maria Higgins, Ciara Cunningham, Michelle Horner, Alana Poland, Sophie Colgan, Carrie Killen, Colleen Fearon, Orla McAlinden, Charlene Whyte

* An Riocht Minor Footballers entertained Loughinisland in the Minor League on Thursday evening at Dunavil, eventually coming out on the right end of a 1-16 to 1-07 result. An Riocht played the game at a very high tempo, letting the ball do the work and reaping the rewards. Steven Doran made some excellent save and his distribution was first class, at Midfield, Declan Doyle gave a master class of long-range pointing and delivering the ball early. Its well known that every team needs a good free taker and in Ronan McAlinden, An Riocht had this in abundance, finishing with Ten scored placed balls.
An Riocht Team: Steven Doran, Declan Clarke, John O'Rourke, Mark Higgins, Brian Rodgers, Kevin Sloan, Ryan Speirs, Kory Colgan, Declan Doyle, John-Paul Farrell, Ronan McAlinden, John Sands, Adam Whit, James Reilly, Nathan McComiskey.
