Rogers regains Down captaincy

May 17, 2012

Down's Ambrose Rogers
Ambrose Rogers will captain Down in this year's championship.

The Longstone midfielder will skipper the Mourne County in their Ulster SFC quarter-final against Fermanagh at Brewster Park on June 3 after manager James McCartan had rotated the captaincy during the Allianz League. Rogers previously captained Down in 2010, but Benny Coulter ended up leading the team out in that year's All-Ireland final against Cork after Rogers was injured in a club game against Liatroim.

Coulter retained the captaincy last year and was expected to be given the honour again this summer until he was sidelined recently with an ankle fracture.

Danny Hughes - who is struggling to be fit for the Fermanagh game because of a hamstring injury - and Kalum King have been named as vice-captains.
