ACFL Div II Carryduff - v - Newry Shamrocks 30th April 2012
The intensity of their first half performance effectively secured the two league points for the home side when Carryduff met Newry Shamrocks at Páirc Aodha Dhuibh. In a competitive first ten minutes, possession was hotly contested. Ryan O'Neill opened the scoring from a free (7th) before Oisín Lynch equalised for Shamrocks. Kirean Lavery's terrific save proved inspirational for Carryduff as they quickly got to grips with the game and dominated the remainder of the first half. Points from Joe McFlynn (11th), Barry O'Neill (14th) and Conall Early (18th) established Carryduff in a position of control. Further points from Andy Moorehead (22nd) and an right-footed point from Early gave the home team a five point advantage. In the 29th minute Moorehead's hesitancy, when one-on-one with the Shamrocks 'keeper, cost him his chance of a goal. Barry O'Neill, however, was not to be denied, finishing coolly to the Shamrocks net after a very assured solo run from 60 metres out to leave Carryduff with a commanding advantage at the break. Carryduff 1-06 Newry Shamrocks 0-01
Despite winning possession at the start of the second half, Shamrocks failed to capitalise as Paul Rafferty and Fergal mcAvoy both shot wide. Early converted (34th) after Stephen Flynn was upended and converted again (35th) after Ryan O'Neill was hauled to the ground. Joe McFlynn pointed from an acute angle (39th) and Ryan O'Neill converted a further free (40th) putting twelve points between the teams before Kevin Heagerty snatched one back for Shamrocks. The difference was enough to ensure victory for Carryduff. Stephen O'Hagan (free, 51st), Keith Sloan 952nd) and Niall Cunningham (free, 56th) added scores for Shamrocks. Carryduff mounted a few challenges in the last minutes of the game but McMahon (54th) and Flynn (55th) kicked wide.
