Glasdrumman GAC Notes
April 23, 2012
Our senior footballers continued their great start to the season with a one point win over Tullylish on Friday night.
On a beautiful spring evening in Noamh Mhuire Park it was the Tullylish who made the fast start registering two fine points within the opening couple of minutes. There was a five minute spell of deadlock with both teams scrapping for possession. Connaire Harrison opened our account with a point from a free and quickly added another from play after a good move from our backs through midfield. Shane Harrison also weighed in with a point.
Tullylish laid siege to our defence with their tall fast inside forward line looking dangerous in possession. In a fifteen minute spell they added four more points despite stout defending by our backs. Shaun Brennan replaced Sean Mc Dowell and he stopped the wrought with a well taken point.
Another great move found the inform Connaire Harrison who promptly buried the ball in the Tullylish net much to the delight of the home crowd.
As we were willing the half time whistle to blow Tullylish broke up the field and punished our lack of concentration with a goal to leave the half time score 1-4 to 1-6 in favour of the visitors.
Tullylish started the second half with a point practically from the throw in, but the Glasdrumman team of 2012 are a resilient squad and were determine to keep Tullylish in their sights.
There was a tit for tat exchange of point taking with Connaire Harrison converting from various angles.
Shaun Brennan brought us within single point of Tullylish who were not going to go down without a fight and they replied with a similar score to regain a two point advantage.
With the game on a knife edge Connaire Harrison added another point to bring his personal tally on the night to 1-7.
Our boys are growing in confidents and developing a strong team character worked tirelessly to launch another telling attack which found the sharp shooter Shaun Brennan who unleashed an unstoppable shot to the Tullylish net.
The never say die visitors came looking for the scores to tie or win the match but our defence past their final test and restricted them to a single point, leaving the final score 2-10 to 1-12.
This was another great result built around hard work and supportive play which is becoming the hallmark of this team.
So it is back on the road on Friday night when Ardglass are our hosts.
On Monday 30th we play St Johns at home.

On the minor front Baileghlas lost away to Warrenpoint 2-17 to 1-10. There next match is at home to Saul on Tuesday 1st May.
Our U12 team travelled to An Riocht for another of the South Down Blitzes on Sunday 22 April. They played against teams from An Riocht, Shamrocks A & B, Ballyholland A & B in what proved to be a great show of skill and talent from our young players. Goalie on the day was Aidan McVeigh who made some outstanding saves and gave great feed of ball out to the other players in his team. A strong defence and midfield of Kerri, Matt, Caelan, Jamie, Padraig Ronan, Jonny and Callum helped to keep the opposing team from winning the ball throughout play. In the forward line Eoin, Martin and Anna worked tirelessly keeping the ball up at their end of the pitch. Well done all. U12 Training will take place on Wednesday evenings 6.45 to 8 at Quarter Rd pitch in preparation for our last blitz of the season which will be on Sunday 29th April away to Ballyholland. Children travelling on the bus must be at the "hill" at 9.30am on Sunday.

Congratulations to the Pointer Group which is made up of 20 teenagers from our club. They had great cause for celebrations as they received confirmation that they had achieved the NVQ pass they had committed themselves too from September 2011 through The Prince's Trust XL Programme. This programme gave each young person the opportunity to develop Personal, Team and Interpersonal Skills and whilst being active in their community they also developed Citizenship and Community Awareness skills. This qualification is recognised by schools and universities throughout the UK and Ireland and will read well on their CV's.
Well done to the facilitators Catherine Kelly, Annette Grant and Jen McKay who guided the group through the process. The leaders would like to thank the young people for all the hard work, dedication and commitment throughout the experience and congratulate them on reaching their goal.
