Down Ladies Football Round up

August 23, 2010
Round-up
The Club semi's took place over the weekend. In the senior division Bredagh saw off the challenge of Bryansford to reach their 2nd final in a row. Bredagh never really looked troubled and were good value for their 9-point win. Clonduff and Castlewellan had a great battle in Newcastle before the Town saw them off by 2-points. The Town worked hard for this win and will be energised by this win over Clonduff who had dominated the scene for the last number of years.
The Intermediate division saw Ballymartin advance to the final with a stylish performance against Mayobridge. They await the outcome of Annaclone/Shamrocks who play on Tuesday night.

The Junior division saw the league leaders Tullylish deservedly advance to the final with a comprehensive win over Aughlisnafin. Loughinisland also had a good win over St. Michaels to set up a mouth watering final.
Week-ahead

The Down Ladies Club Championship finals take place this Saturday in Saval.

The Junior Final will see League Leaders Tullylish take on 2nd placed Loughinisland. There is not much separating the two teams with the only league fixture to date going in Tullylish's favour though this was early in the season. Tullylish will start as favourites but they will be fully aware of the challenge that lies ahead. The blues relegated from the Intermediate division last season are very experienced and will no doubt raise their game in this, the showpiece event of the year. Tullylish will be fancied to sneak it though it might take extra time to separate them.

The Intermediate final will see Ballymartin taking on the winners of Shamrocks/Annaclone. The Lilywhites had a good semi-final win over Mayobridge but they will need to up their game if they are to lay any claim to their first ever Intermediate title. Annaclone and Shamrocks are the two top teams in this division going by the league table and which ever side comes through Tuesday nights other Semi-Final will start as strong favourites. Its hard to call but whoever wins this one will have to work hard for it and there is unlikely to be much in it at the long whistle. The Senior Final will see current holders Bredagh take on Castlewellan. The Belles after a barren period are going for a two-in -a-row and it is hard to see them slipping up on Saturday evening. Castewellan are a very good side but it would take an exceptional performance over sixty minutes to wrestle the crown away from Bredagh.
