Down Minors Into Ulster Final Congratulations to Keith Quinn, Kevin McClorey and Shane McNamee and Desy Kennedy on their respective parts in seeing the Down minors beat Donegal in the Ulster semi-final.  Mayobridge 0-10 Warrenpoint 0-9 (Senior Football) It was a case of top of the league versus bottom in this clash in this game played on a breezy evening in Mayobridge.  League positions went out the window and for large parts of the game a stranger not knowing Down football would have picked the Point as the team top of the table.  Mayobridge went into the game missing the inform Michael Walsh, Benny Coulter, Adrian Barry and Noel Sexton and without this quartet really struggled to impose themselves on the game but credit must go to Warrenpoint for the manner in which they stuck to their task and pushed Mayobridge right to the end.  Mayobridge played with the breeze in the first half and at half time lead 0-7 to 0-3 with Cathal Magee top scoring with 3 points. With the breeze at their backs in the second half the Warrenpoint immediately started to make inroads in the Bridge s lead with Johhny Cowan hitting an excellent long range point which was followed by a 37th minute free to leave two points between the sides.  Conleth O Hare and Ronan Sexton points put the Bridge back four points ahead with 43 minutes played.  That Ronan Sexton score was to be Mayobridge s last score until deep into injury time in the game.  Warrenpoint hit three unanswered points to leave just a point between the sides with 4 minutes to go and Warrenpoint were putting the pressure on the home side.  A Cathal Magee free in the 62nd minute gave Mayobridge some breathing space and meant a final minute Warrenpoint score just wasn t enough for the plucky visitors. Mayobridge team & scorers: Liam Coulter, Gavin Barry, Brendan Grant, Seamus Grant, Shane O Hare, Conor Garvey, Micheal Lively, Darren Fegan, Eoghan Woods, Conleth O Hare (0-2), John Caldwell, Ronan Sexton (0-1), Ryan Brady (0-2), Cathal Magee (0-4), John Quinn (0-1). Warrenpoint team: Keith Watters, Anthony Grimes, Eoin Henry, Ryan McAleenan, Ruari Cowen, Brendan Kearney, John Boyle, Paul Trainor, Gabriel Smith, Johnny Cowan, Paudie Smith, Ryan Mallon, Gary Boyle, Gary McMahon, Davy Walker.   Burren 4-10 v  Mayobridge 5-11 (U14 Football League) Despite only playing well in patches Mayobridge were able to lead this game from start to finish.  Aoran Buttterfield, Conor Rooney, Darren Mynes and Jody McGovern were the best Bridge players on show.  Our U14 s were drew out against Saval in the championship semi final.  Already this season Saval have came to Mayobridge and left 6 point winners so our players should be under no illusions of the size of the task facing them.  Saval will be a tough proposition but are far from an impossible one.  Dates and venues of this game to be confirmed.  The U14 Management and players would like offer their Sympathies to player Conor Rooney on the death his Grandfather Dinny Rooney. Team: CJ Barr, Thomas Looney, John Poland, Liam Magee, Johnny Catterson, Aoran Butterfield, Martin McGovern, Conor Rooney, Barry Cunnigham, Cory Quinn, Darren Mynes, Paul Lively, Ciaran McConville, Jody McGovern and Darren McPolin Subs Used: Aoran Magee. Kilcoo 0-7 Mayobridge 4-15 (ACPRC) On paper this looked to be a difficult assignment for Mayobridge seconds but some excellent passages of play and three goals in the last ten minutes of the first half allowed Mayobridge to coast through the second half of this game.  The first twenty minutes of the game were tight enough with the scoring evenly distributed between the teams.  Kilcoo were talking some excellent long range scores and Mayobridge were really finding it hard to break down Kilcoo s blanket defence.  The last 10 minutes of the first half was when the game really sparked to life, Mickey Linden won a ball in the corner and played a great ball across the square to Conleth O Hare who managed to release the ball to Kevin McClorey who shot to the net from close range.  Just a minute later Mickey Linden and Gavin Walsh did well to great a goal chance which Conleth O Hare finished well to the net.    A well finished Gavin Walsh goal just before half time gave Mayobridge a 3-5 to 0-6 lead at the break. 5 Minutes into the second half Conleth O Hare beat his man on the wing and headed goal ward before hitting an unstoppable shot to the top corner of the Kilcoo net from a tight angle.  This goal killed the game off as a contest and for the remainder of the game Mayobridge continued to rattle of the points every couple of minutes and limiting Kilcoo to only one point from a free kick. Shane McNamee lead the defence by example winning ball after ball which came his way, wing backs Kevin McClorey and Ciaran Bradley got through enormous amounts of work and linked well with the forwards.  The forwards all played well but Mickey Linden and Conleth O Hare were the most creative.  After some depressing results in the league Mayobridge seconds have hopefully reminded themselves of what they are capable of when everyone is fully focused on the game.  Getting anything when playing away to Kilcoo is a tough task but to go there and win in this manner should be a big boost for the rest of the season.  Mayobridge team & scorers: Paul Rooney, Patrick Murphy, Shane McNamee, Caolan Lynchaoun (0-1), Kevin McClorey (1-0), Cathal Killen (0-1), Kieran Bradley (0-1), Thomas O Hare, Keith Quinn, Michael Butterfield (0-2), Conleth O Hare (2-5), Gavin Walsh (1-1), Michael Linden (0-2), Barry Garvey, Caolan Gallagher. Subs used: Declan Rooney (0-1) for Keith Quinn, Brendan Cunningham (0-1) for Michael Linden, Ronan Lively for Kevin McClorey, Ronan O Hare for Cathal Killen Sympathies The committee and members of Mayobridge GAC would like to extend our sympathies to the family and friends of Denis Rooney.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
