Donegal manager Ardal McDermott is looking forward to the league campaign getting underway this weekend.

The Ulster side face a tough opener in Division 2B as they must travel to Castlebar where they will face Mayo in the opening game.

McDermott took over from Ray Durack at the end of last year and he told the Donegal Democrat that his philosophy was to take it one game at a time.

"We are taking it one game at a time. But obviously the number one goal is to retain our status in the division," said McDermott.

"To do that we need to win one and possibly two games and when you look at the division and the teams in the division that is going to be tough.

"We have beaten Mayo once a number of years ago and you have to go back at least 15 years since we last beat Armagh in a competitive game. And as for the rest of the teams, Meath, Down and Wicklow, we have never beaten any of the teams.

"We are happy enough with preparations though you would also like a little more time. But overall we are pleased and we are in good shape."
