Eamon McGee admits he'd prefer if football was just about football.

Modern intercounty footballers put in a huge slog in terms of training, match fitness and generally looking after themselves and the Gweedore clubman isn't a big fan of all the sacrifices:

"I just want to play football - I love football," the Donegal defender comments in The Irish News. "I would love to play football but I would prefer if all I had to do was turn up on the Sunday.

"I'm not as fond of the other stipulations that come with it now. But I am enjoying my football now and I want to get the most out of it. I am in a really good place now.

"In the quieter moments after the All-Ireland final, Rory Gallagher said that I needed to work on the high ball. That is something that I have taken in. I am working and I am progressing and the confidence is coming from that.

"Last year I wasn't really up to the fitness level of the other boys. The boys were super-fit whereas I was just fit.

"That is something that I have had to work on over the winter. I'm not flying at 100% just yet but I am going in the right direction."
