Exodus concerns Donegal

May 11, 2012

Emigration is a major problem particularly in counties like Galway and Mayo.
Donegal are concerned by the amount of players that are leaving the county.

In the first four months of the year, more players have transferred out of the county than the whole of 2011 and Donegal secretary Aodh Mairtin O'Fearraigh admitted to the Donegal Democrat that such an exodus was alarming.

Last month saw 50 players leave their home clubs for either permanent transfers or just summer sanctions.

"It is very worrying. I accept that the first half of the year is the busiest time for transfers, especially sanctions, but when you look at the numbers and see that we have nearly as many at thus stage of the year as we had for the whole of last year," it's not good.

"The only positive thing one can say about it is that the players going on sanctions are only doing so for two months and they will be back by the end of the summer at least."
