Ulster MFL shield: Armagh too good for Donegal
April 30, 2012
An impressive Armagh side outscored Donegal by 13-points in the Ulster Minor football league shield final at Clones on Saturday afternoon.
Armagh 1-16
Donegal 0-6
In what was played as a curtain raiser to the MFL final clash between Tyrone and Derry, Armagh were much the dominant outfit from the word go. Donegal came into the game on the back of a solid victory over Down but the absence of a number of regulars was evident.
The Orchard were ahead by seven points by the time the half-time whistle sounded - 1-7 to 0-3. Wing forward Barry Murphy got the games only goal on 20 minutes, his stylish finish gave the Donegal netminder Daniel Mullarkey no chance.
After the break Armagh maintained the upperhand. With Ethan Rafferty and Paul Campbell on top at midfield they dominated possession. Ciaran O'Hanlon, who operated at centre forward gave a man of the match performance aswell as registering 5-points over the hour all from open play.
Mid way through the second half Armagh led Donegal by eleven points.
