July 27, 2010
Updates from the Naomh Adhamhnáin, An Tearmainn, Aodh Ruadh, Na Dunaibh, St Naul's, Gaeil Fhánada, An Clochan Liath, Red Hughs, Naomh Colmcille and St. Marys clubs.

Naomh Adhamhnáin
The Seniors and Reserves both suffered defeat in the Championship at the hands of Four Masters on Saturday evening in MacCumhaill Park. The Seniors never got going and never led throughout the game. Dowdsy's Reserves were unlucky, having led for long spells only to be undone by as late fortunate goal for the Donegal Town men. The Junior B's were also knocked out of their Championship after a controversial game in Downings on Sunday evening. The game finished in a draw after Downings got 2-1 in injury time and the lads can rightly feel aggrieved after a performance of great character, they will feel some very poor decisions went against them on the night. Good luck to Downings in the next round. The Junior A's have a league game scheduled for this Thursday evening away to Muff. The Senior Hurlers take on Burt this Wednesday evening at home in the League with a 7:45pm start.
The Minor Boys have a short break before they face Gaoth Dobhair in the Championship quarterfinal 2nd leg on Friday week, August 6th followed by their league semi-final against Naomh Conaill on Monday, August 9th. Their whole season could depend on those four days. The Minor Div. 2 team had a great win over Glenfin in their Championship game but know they face a stiff test in the return leg. The U-16 Boys meet Aodh Rua this Friday evening in their Championship semi-final, time and venue to be confirmed.
The U-14 Div. 1 boys continued their campaign with a home game against MacCumhaills on Monday night. They will then face rivals Gaoth Dobhair in the Northern League Final on Friday evening in Dunfanaghy with a 7:30pm throw-in.
There will be no Sunday Morning Football Academy for the next 2 weeks (Sunday, August 1st and Sunday the 8th) but the U-10 (born 2000) under Brian McGeehin will continue to train at the usual time the next two Sundays.
The U-16 hurlers beat Strabane Shamrocks in the league by 2-10 to 3-6. U-16 Hurling training every Monday 5:30pm. Minor hurling training is also at the same time. U-8 and U-10 hurling & all camogie training in O'Donnell Park this Friday at 6:30pm. U-12 Camogie have training both Friday 6:30 and Wednesday 5-6pm. U-6 Hurling & Camogie from 6:30 to 7:30. U-12 Hurling training every Tuesday at 4:15pm. Remember that hurls with grips & helmets may be purchased from the club through Eunan O'Donnell. New hurling and camogie players always welcome.
There will be no Hurling & Camogie Academy on Friday, August 6th and Friday, August 13th.
Terence Gallagher is taking part in the Niall Mellon Township Challenge is South Africa once again this November. He is holding a Table Quiz in Arena 7 this Thursday, July 29th at 9pm to raise funds for the trip so please try to get a team together and support his efforts.
The lotto numbers for this week are 7, 12, 17 and 24. There were 5 winners that matched 3 numbers and they win €20 each. Paul McGovern, Glencar Irish; Stephen Hasson, Curraghleagh; Padraig Halvey, Meadowhill; D. Doherty, 28 Ballyraine Pk. (all card) and Aisling & Bridgin Smith, Millenium Court (Adrian)
We would like to extend our sympathies to the Donlon family, Strokestown, Co. Roscommon.

The club ran a very successful BBQ and Crazy auction at the dressing rooms on Sunday evening past. We would like to thank all the people who provided items free of charge for the auction, people who bought these items in the auction, John Mc Cafferty?s investment in two round bales of silage and Brian Mc Eniff?s framed picture were surely the buys of the night.
We would also like to thank the chefs who fed us and the DJ who entertained us and all the volunteers who helped set up the event.
There will be a Charity Over 40?s G.A.A. Football Match between Termon v                                    Cloughaneely, at The Burn Road Termon, on Friday July 30th. Throw in 7.30pm

Aodh Ruadh
~ MEETING ~
The monthly senior club meeting takes place on Thursday 29th July in Aras Aoidh Ruadh 8.30pm. All committee members are asked to attend. Cairde Aoidh Ruaidh promoters who have outstanding standing order sheets are asked to have them in for this meeting.
~ FOOTBALL ~
The minors host Four Masters town this Wednesday to take on Four Masters in the first leg of their first round championship tie. Throw in is at 7.30pm. The club appeals for a big show of green and white to get behind this our players in their biggest game of the year so far.
Aodh Ruadh were defeated in the under 16 southern divisional final last Friday by 1-8 to 1-9, but although they were down to 14 men for much of the game they fought every inch of the way. James Barron might have gone off half way through the first half, but Aodh Ruadh remained in control of the game right up until the dying moments. Ahead by 1-4 to 0-4 at half time they were a still point ahead with two minutes to go. Then Kilcar fired over an equaliser and shortly after Aodh Ruadh had a clear call for a penalty rejected by the referee. Kilcar then got their winning point two minutes into injury time, but Aodh Ruadh were allowed no opportunity to level the game, handing victory to the Towney side. Ballyshannon can be proud of the valiant effort the players made though. Eamon McGrath was a rock at full back, while behind him emergency goal keeper, Jamie McDonald left his normal berth at right half forward and had a great game between the sticks. PJ Gillespie had storming game at right half forward. Aodh Ruadh were well served by Alan Finan and Marcus Harley in the middle of the field, Finan probably just edging it for Ballyshannon's man of the match plaudits. Ryan Patton and Johnny Gettins ran the 40 tirelessly and really emptied the tank, Johnny firing over two quality points. At full forward David McGurrin made maximum use of the limited possession that came his way, his haul including Aodh Ruadh's first half goal. Ronan Matthews got some fine pictures of the game. The under 16s are now into county semi-final action this Friday when they take Saint Eunan's in Convoy at 7pm. This promises to be another cracker of a game and with the incentive of another lash at Kilcar in the county final there's a lot riding on it for Aodh Ruadh so we're calling for a big travelling Ballyshannon support to get behind our boys this Friday.
There was further heartache for Aodh Ruadh when they also pipped by a point by Killybegs in under 14 Southern League final by a point in Donegal town on Monday evening. The final score line was 4-7 to 3-11, with the Killybegs winner coming in injury time after the sides had matched each other score for score nearly whole way through. Aodh Ruadh probably had the slower start and that was reflected in the half time score which was 2-4 to 3-4 in favour of the Fishermen. They battled well in the second half and only for a small lack composure could well have won the game. Among the best for Aodh Ruadh were Jason Gallagher at full back, Matthew Maguire and Eddie Lynch at half back and Colm Kelly who played with his customary polish at midfield. Up front Ryan Gallagher played bravely as always and consequently drew a lot of frees from his markers. Shane McGrath was very busy and garnished his contribution with a goal. Philip Patton scored four points after slow start and was a creative influence in the attack. Next up for the under 14s is Saint Eunan's in the county semi-final. Date, time and venue have yet to be confirmed.
An Tánaiste Mary Coughlan visited on the last day of the Aodh Ruadh summer camp. She's handier with a hurl than Sylvester Maguire anyway, and we have the proof up on aodhruadh.org.
~ HURLING ~
The seniors had a drew with Strabane Shamrocks 1-8 apiece last Wednesday in the senior hurling league.
Fifteen under 10s took part in a blitz in Gaoth Dobhair on Sunday along with the host club and Saint Eunan's. They played four games winning two and losing two. Well done to Michael Ayres and Kevin McDermott who travelled.
The under 12s are at home to Carndonagh in the Donegal league on Thursday with the time yet to be confirmed.
The under 14s are at home to Lisbellaw in the Fermanagh league on Tuesday. All players to be up for 6.45pm. The lads are then away to Knocks on Monday next.
The under 16s lost away to a strong Setanta team on Thursday last.
The annual underage hurlers trip to Croke Park takes place on 15th August. The lads are going to watch the much anticipated All-Ireland semi-final between Waterford and Tipperary. Another highlight of the day will be under 12 and 14 Aodh Ruadh hurler Brendan Gillespie's participation in the half time exhibition game. This is a great honour for Brendan and the club. Any queries about this trip please contact John Rooney on 086-2587793.
Training for all ages on Sunday at 12 noon. Any parent of any underage hurler who wishes to buy a subsidised helmet can contact any underage manager or John Rooney on 086-2587793.
~ LADIES ~
Hard luck to Donegal minor ladies who were defeated by Galway in Ballinamore on Saturday. We can be proud of the Aodh Ruadh contingent who represented the club on county panel. Tara Khan, who played at corner back on the day, and Dearbhaile McNeill and Anna Rafferty. We have pictures of the action and some of the Ballyshannon spectators on aodhruadh.org.
Well done to Terence McShea who refereed the Ladies Minor Football All Ireland Shield Final between Mayo and Westmeath. Mayo will be very happy with his performance because they ran out 3-10 to 1-5 winners.
Aodh Ruadh ladies will play Saint Naul's in the league this Tuesday evening at 7pm in Father Tierney park.
Anybody who has yet to return county board tickets and money please do so before 3rd August to Karol Foley.
~ CAIRDE AOIDH RUAIDH ~

The Cairde scheme seeks club members to sign up and donate the equivalent of €5 a week to the club in the form of a monthly standing order. ~ LOTTO ~
There was no winner of the €10,000 Aodh Ruadh Lotto jackpot last Sunday. In the lucky dip €100 went to Packie Boyle, Saint Benildus Avenue. €20 each went to: Anna McCafferty, Camlin; Freddie McDonagh, Abbeylands; Kieran Blake, Parkhill; Pearse O'Neill, Bridgend; and James Monaghan, Main Street, Pettigo.
