The men's team travelled to An Beart (Burt) GAA on Saturday to take part in the Gary Mc Laughlin and Darren Downey Memorial Cup a 7 a-sides tournament. In the next game Lifford played John Mitchell's of Liverpool, Lifford lost this hard fought battle in the end on a score line of 0-4 to 0-6. Lifford now relied on John Mitchell's defeating Burt to gain a place in the quarter finals which they dually did for Lifford on a well convincing score line. Lifford now entertained An Iorras (Urris) in the quarter finals of the tournament. In a thrilling end to end game with scores coming from goalkeeper Paul Given, Shane Meehan, Mark Carlin, Mark Mc Nulty and a goal from Gary Mc Girr, it was to prove not enough for Lifford to defeat Urris, in the end going down on a score line of 1-5 to 2-4. Aodh Ruadh
~ FOOTBALL ~
Well done to Peter Boyle who made a second half appearance for Donegal minors as they defeated Fermanagh 2-6 to 0-6 in their first game of the Ulster League.
The under 16s got their league campaign off to the perfect start with a 3-10 to 2-5 win over Dungloe last Sunday in Father Tierney Park. Dungloe weathered the long trip down the road very well and the game was a very tight, competitive affair until the last ten minutes when a Pauric Patton goal finally helped turn matters in Aodh Ruadh’s favour. Elsewhere Eamonn McGrath had a fine game at full back while wing backs Darren Gethins and Colm Kelly both impressed as Aodh Ruadh soaked up the pressure. Up front James Barron at centre forward pulled the strings to great effect while Ryan Granaghan picked off a good goal. Pauric Patton’s outstanding second half performance was key to Aodh Ruadh securing the two points. The next round of the league sees the under 16s travel to Killybegs on Sunday, 21st March for a throw in of 12 noon. Training as usual on Tuesdays and Fridays.
The under 14s had their first outing of the year in the Erne Gaels/Devenish tournament last Saturday. They beat Belcoo, Devenish and drew with Naomh Bríd in their group games to secure a semi-final spot. There where they were defeated by a strong Kilcar outfit and Dromore ran out ultimate winners.
Under 10 training continues at Father Tierney park this Saturday at 11.45am. Training runs from 12 noon to 1pm and children should be collected promptly following training.
Under 8 training continues this Saturday morning at 11am at the school field in Colaiste Cholmcille. There will be game against Bundoran on Saturday 27th March at 11pm in Pairc Aoidh Ruaidh. Well done to our players of the week Keith Greene and Martin McGarrigle.
Under 6 training continues this Friday evening from 6pm to 6.45pm. All newcomers welcome any parents who wish to lend a hand coaching are more than welcome. Well done to our star player of the week Jack Gallagher.
