Robert Emmets Notes

June 29, 2009
Robert Emmets Notes 29th. June Another disappointing weekend for the Clubs adult footballers as both teams suffered home defeats at the hands of Bundoran. In the reserve game Emmets got off to a dream start with a goal by Ronan Tourish, however this advantage was short lived as Bundoran scored two goals almost immediately and although Emmets had the bulk of possession for the remainder of the half the good not take advantage of it and went in at halftime 2-4 to 1-5 in arrears. Emmets started of well in the second half also and were on level terms just 5 mins into the half. However the game swung very much in Bundorans favour over the next five mins. Emmets were awarded a penalty, which was saved by the keeper and from his clearance Bundoran swept up the field, as in the first half scored two quick goals to go into a commanding lead. In between these goals Emmets were dealt a further cruel blow when their influential midfielder Kieran Mc Elchar was forced of suffering from a serious head injury picked up in an accidental collision. Bundoran went on to add on 8 more points to just 2 in reply for Emmets. Emmets scores came from Kevin White 0-4,Ronan Tourish 1-0,Cristopher Mc Alynn, Adam Mc Connell, Kieran Mc Elchar, Damian Doherty and Thomas Devlin 0-1 each. As in the reserve game, Emmets senior team also got off to a great start scoring 3 quick points from the boot of Jonathan Mc Laughlin. However, the could only add a single Michael Lafferty point for the remainder of the half while Bundoran notched up an impressive 2-8. Emmets needed a good start in the second half to stand any chance of a comeback but this did not materialise and it was Bundoran who got the first two points to go into an unassailable lead. From their to the final whistle the game petered out to a dull drawn out affair, free ridden and very little attractive football being played with Bundoran well worth their 2-12 to 0-8 victory. For Emmets it was an overall disappointing performance following their good away victory the previous, but with still nine games left in the league the still have time to redeem themselves and pick up the necessary points required to stay in this division. Good luck to the Donegal senior team in Sat. nights All-Ireland Qualifier v Carlow in Mc Cool Pk. This is also an opportunity for them to redeem themselves and restore some pride in the County jersey.
