Meagher Cup: Donegal to meet Tyrone in decider

June 28, 2009
Neighbours Donegal and Tyrone will meet in the inaugural Lory Meagher Cup final at Croke Park on July 11 following their respective semi-final wins over South Derry and Longford. Donegal gave their suspended manager Eamonn Campbell plenty to cheer about when they edged out South Down by 1-15 to 2-11 at Pairc Esler in Newry. South Down looked set for the final when they led by three points late on, but a Sean McVeigh goal brought Donegal level before the manager's son, Kevin Campbell, fired over the winning point. In the other semi-final in Edgeworthstown, Tyrone recovered from a two-point interval deficit to overcome Longford by 3-16 to 4-9. Justin Kelly was the scoring hero for the Red Hands, finishing with a personal tally of 1-11. Goals from Gary Fox and Kelly gave the visitors an early 2-2 to 0-3 lead, but two quick-fire goals helped Longford to a 2-7 to 2-5 interval lead. With Kelly to the fore, the visitors regained the lead in the second half and they surged 3-15 to 2-9 clear thanks to a Conor Grogan penalty. Joe O'Brien pulled back a goal for the midlanders, but it was a case of too little, too late as Tyrone set up an all-Ulster final.
