Hurlers playing for Croke Park place

June 26, 2009
The prize is a Croke Park appearance in the final of the inaugural Lory Meagher Cup as Donegal face South Down on Saturday. The semi-final in the fourth-tier All-Ireland championship has a 3:30 throw-in at Newry, and Donegal go into the game on the back of two wins and one defeat. Eamonn Campbell's men opened with an impressive victory over Cavan but then slipped up against Longford before bouncing back with a win at Fermanagh's expense last weekend. Should Donegal progress to the decider, the All-Ireland final will take place in Croke Park in a fortnight's time - on Saturday July 11 - as a triple-header incorporating the Nicky Rackard and Christy Ring finals. "While we may not have thought it at the time, the defeat to Longford may have been a good thing as it meant we have had the extra game," says the Donegal boss. "Down have been waiting a week and hopefully will not be as sharp as we are."
