Robert Emmets Notes
June 22, 2009
We had mixed fortunes in our Div. 3 league games v Na Rossa at Dooey at the weekend with victory for our Sen. team and a narrow defeat for our reserve team. The reserve team put up a very spirited performance and although the went in at half time 1-6 to 0-3 in arrears, this score line did not do them justice as the shot 9 wides to just 2 for Na Rossa. The second half was another close affair and Emmets had cut the lead to just 3 points but then were forced to withdraw their influential centre field player Cristopher Bryson and this took away their control of midfield and Na Rossa held on for a 1-11 to 1-7 victory. Emmets scores came from Kevin White 0-4, Kevin Dooher 1-0,Cristopher Mc Alynn, Kieran Mc Elchar and Cristopher Bryson 0-1 each.
The Senior team picked up their first win of the season with a hard earned but fully deserved victory despite the fact that the were forced to line out without the services of a number of their more experienced players. Emmets led had half time 1-4 to 0-6 with their goal coming from a brilliant shot from Paul Mc Cauley. The second half started of with both teams trading 2 points each but then a cracker of a goal for Na Rossa shot them into the lead but Emmets were quick to respond with a point and the were then awarded a penalty which was expertly put away by Niall Mc Connell and with further points from Michael Lafferty were able to resist a final onslaught from Na Rossa for a deserved victory. Emmets scores came from Niall Mc Connell 1-3, Michael Lafferty 0-4, Paul Mc Cauley 1-0, Emmet White 0-2. Hopefully Emmets can now build on this victory and progress up the table out of the relegation zone. Still a lot of ground to make up but with everyone working together anything is still possible
Our Lotto Jackpot at the time of these notes is still intact and stands at 6950 and would be a nice summer bonus for some lucky punter. The Lotto is a great fundraiser for the Club and we are sincerely grateful for the loyal support of all our sellers, buyers and business premises who cooperate and without whose help we could not successfully run our Lotto.
The Club ran a very successful School Quiz in St, Marys N.S. Castlefinn and St. Safans Alt at the weekend. The Quiz was organised by Dominick Mc Glinchey in conjunction with the School Principles and Teachers. The winning team in St. Safans consisted of Aisling Grieve, Paul Mc Grenra and Dara Mc Connell. With second placed team being Kaitlyn Mc Hugh, Gavin Wright and Tyrone Flanagan. The winning team members in St. Marys were Demi Buchannan, Ronan Kennedy and Barry Caulfield. The runners up were Aaron Curran, Owen Gibbons and Sean Kennedy.
Congratulations to St. Marys N.S. Castlefinn on achieving their second green flag, which, was raised at the weekend by members of Robert Emmets, in the presence of pupils and teachers of the school. Special congratulations to Teacher Seena Mc Ateer and her Green Sch. Comm. for all their hard work.
