Doherty to 'change things about'

Donegal boss John Joe Doherty has admitted that he and his management team will need to "change things about" if the county are to redeem themselves in the All-Ireland qualifiers. Doherty's men suffered a humiliating late defeat at the hands of Antrim last Sunday, which has sent them crashing into first round of the backdoor, but the manager believes that now is a perfect time for the younger players in the squad to stand up and be counted for. "We cannot be too rash and make wholesale changes, but we are definitely going to have to look at the team and change things about. Hopefully, the younger lads in the panel will see it as an opportunity to break into the team," Doherty told the Donegal Democrat newspaper. Doherty also said that he did not expect any withdrawals from the panel and outlined that the players were determined to rectify their season in the qualifiers. "Naturally, they were very disappointed but a number of lads spoke in the dressing room afterwards and overall the response was very positive and they felt they had let themselves down and were very determined to make amends and restore pride in the Qualifiers. "As a team, players and management, we are going to have to face up to the defeat and the challenge now before us like men. Sometimes you can find out more about yourself in defeat and hopefully this is the case on this occasion and this applies to the management as well as the players," said the Donegal manager.
