The magnitude of Slaughtneil's historic treble of Ulster football, hurling and camogie wins wasn't lost on assistant manager John Joe Kearney.

"Winning the first Ulster title (in 2014) was special. but today, the fact that we were trying to set a record - something that's never been done before on the island of Ireland - champions of camogie, hurling and football in senior championships at provincial level all in the one year might never be repeated. If somebody does, good luck to them," he told the Irish News after yesterday's football victory over Kilcoo completed the triple crown.

"Everybody in the area and the parish are filled with pride. It's a small area. I suppose we are fortunate in that a lot of work has been put in by a lot of other people over the years in all codes, and it's come to fruition.

"Any team that wins anything must have a good group of players all at the one time and we've a good pool. Don't forget that half our team are hurlers. But we are very, very happy with the result today."
