O'Boyle happy to work hard

Cailean O'Boyle points to Derry's appetite for hard graft as one of the reasons why they are currently perched proudly at the top of the Allianz FL Division 2 table.

It has very much been a case of so far, so good under Damian Barton as the Oak Leafers have claimed the scalps of Fermanagh and Cavan.

"Everyone's working hard, on and off the ball, and we're making good headway because of that," O'Boyle revealed to The Irish News.

"I've probably found myself chasing defenders back more than ever before. In other years, I might have got away without doing that, but this year the mentality from Damian [Barton] is different in that you're in charge of your own man, end of story, and I do find myself back there a lot, but I've no problem with that.

"You have to graft for the team, it's hard especially when you're playing against a wind and on a massive field.

"But if that means me having to run back to our own 13-metre line, well so be it. It's just for the cause."
