Derry celebrate their Ulster MFC Final win over Cavan at Clones. INPHO

Derry minor manager Damien McErlain admits that the county went too long without a provincial title.

That run of 13 years came to an end last Sunday when the Oakleaf youngsters defeated Cavan in the Ulster final at Clones.

McErlain pointed to the strength of the clubs in the county and stressed to the County Derry Post that they shouldn't have had to wait so long for a provincial title.

"Thirteen years without an Ulster at any level is just ridiculous with the clubs we have and the players we're producing. There has to be far more support for the county setups," said McErlain.

"The whole fixtures thing isn't easy in the county either, clubs put big pressure on for the players to play and it puts a lot of pressure on the players' bodies.

"We've got to build on the success and it comes from under-12 up. There's no other county in the country doing the work our clubs are doing. That has to translate into the county set up and we've got to give them structures to allow them to flourish."
