No complaints from McIver

Brian McIver wasn't making an issue of Derry's disallowed goal in their defeat to Monaghan.

Trailing by five points with 15 minutes to go, the Oak Leafers looked to have got themselves back into it when Emmett McGuckin punched a Benny Heron pass to the net, only for the 'goal' to be disallowed for a square ball infringement.

"Monaghan were the better side," conceded the Derry manager, whose team looks certainties for relegation from Division 1 after garnering just one point from a possible 10.

"They took their chances, we didn't take our chances and we probably had enough chances in that second half. If the goal had stood, we were probably well in it at that stage. It was a crucial turning point in the game, but on the day Monaghan were the better side."

He added: "There are so many technicalities about when you're in the square or not in the square.

"As I read it, Benny Heron carried the ball into the square, so when he's in the square and the ball's played, how can it be a square ball? If the ball had been played from a cross, then you could argue, but when Benny is in the square and plays it across, then it can't be a square ball - because the ball's already in the square."
