Derry youngster Conor McAtamney is eager to take his opportunity in midfield.

The Oak Leafers are down a number of regular midfielders through injury and club commitments at the moment and the door is open for McAtamney to stake a claim for a regular starting spot in the side.

"There definitely is (an opportunity), it's just a matter of me taking that opportunity. Fergal, Patsy and PJ won't be there, so it's in my hands," McAtamney told the County Derry Post.

"I've got to show Brian on the training ground and in matches that I'm capable of playing there. Midfield would be my favoured position. But there's other boys fighting for the position and I'm going to have to work hard for it. It's an important position. We'll see how it goes."
