Michael Davitt GAC Swatragh club notes

September 15, 2014

Preparation work is currently taking place to get the drive way and car park ready for tarmacing. The gullies have been installed and curbing will start before the end of this week. The tarmac contract is currently out to tender until September 26th and will hopefully take place in October. With such extensive grounds the priorities are the main entrance and drive, upper car park and along the side of the hall. It is hoped we could get the lower car park done but the club will have to raise a significant amount of money to allow this phase to take place at this moment in time.

The senior footballers took on Steelstown at Davitt Park on Saturday past knowing that victory would ensure their senior status for another year. In a cagey first half where defences were on top pointed frees from Ruairi Convery and James Kearney, and a point from play by Seamus Friel edged Swatragh ahead. A clinical finish from Sean McNicholl, who fired across the the keeper to plant the ball into the bottom right hand corner left Swatragh ahead at the break 1-05 to 0-06. An early Steelstown point in the second half reduced the gap to the minimum before Big R replied from play. As the Davitts upped their work rate, led by Liam Kearney and Ryan Dillon, and figured out the defensive strategy of Brian Ogs they they dominated the remainder of the match. An excellent point from the outside of his right boot by Francis Kearney along with a Sean McNicholl point from play left Swatragh three points in the black. A couple of Big R pointed frees either side of a very composed point from substitute Fintan McGurk doubled Swatragh's advantage. Two points from play by Conor McAtamney, the first pulled on the ground from 30 metres and the second off his left foot extended the Swa's advantage. Not to be out done by his brothers, Patrick Kearney added the final of the game from play to leave the final score Swatragh 1-15 Steelstown 0-08.

The U16 hurlers lost to Kevin Lynches in the semi final of their championship 8-15 to 1-02.
