Brennan recalls McCloy scare

Kevin McCloy's "strength and fitness" helped him survive the heart scare he suffered on the playing field last Wednesday night according to Lavey manager John Brennan.

The former All-Star full-back collapsed after just 11 minutes of the SFC clash with Magherafelt in Owenbeg last week and was resuscitated by the use of a defibrillator.

He has since regained consciousness and is making a slow but steady recovery in hospital and Brennan said to the Irish News: "His strength and fitness saw him through. A lesser person mightn't have made it."

Former Oak Leaf manager Brennan and his players will return to Owenbeg tomorrow night for the re-fixture against their neighbouring parish.

"We met up on Sunday and we're going out again tonight, and that's basically it. Lads are reasonably well. They're much relieved by the fact that Kevin is making progress.

"Naturally it's a blow, he's our captain, our leader, our inspiration. You could add 1,000 adjectives. The boys look around the changing room and that big presence is not there, it's obvious.

"Whether we can overcome that in a short space of time, or whether it will take a longer period of time, only the next few weeks will tell."
