Derry are on the lookout for a new senior hurling manager following Ger Rogan's resignation.

Rogan's four-year tenure culminated in a narrow Ulster final defeat to his native Antrim last month, something which came as a huge disappointment to him.

"Nothing would have given me greater pleasure than to see Derry winning the Ulster championship," he told the Irish News.

"Along with Tom McClean, Shane Elliott and Sean McGuckin, I think we brought the team onto a different level. You also had the likes of Sean Og McCloskey. Sean's knowledge of hurling in Derry was tremendous."

In a statement issued by the Derry county board, chairman John Keenan thanked the former Antrim star for his efforts.

"Ger has had an excellent working relationship with the team and county officers and I would like to acknowledge his valuable contribution to Derry hurling, both in terms of developing players promoting the game in our county.

"Ger's final game as senior manager resulted in a heart-breaking and narrow loss to Antrim in the Ulster hurling final at Owenbeg. It was a performance and an occasion which gives an indication of the undoubted potential within Derry hurling.

"The process of appointing Ger's successor will now get underway."
