Gilligan hails retired duo

Derry Forward Conleth Gilligan believes that Kevin McGuckin and Kevin McCloy will be hard to replace.

Neither play will feature in the 2012 campaign having announced their retirements in recent times and for Derry to lose such experienced campaigners is a huge blow to their Ulster title ambitions.

Gilligan admits that his former team mates leave big shoes to fill, but feels that Derry are producing talented footballers.

"Both McGuckin and Kevin McCloy have been huge servants for Derry football and they've both given over 10 years of commitment to the cause - you can't ask for much more than that from them," Gilligan stressed to the County Derry Post.

"Of course, they'll be a loss and they've had key roles to play in the full back line, but it's a rebuilding process and I'm sure there are plenty of boys who would like the chance to step in now."
