Rogan backs Eoghan Rua decision

Derry hurling manager Ger Rogan
Derry hurling manager Ger Rogan has backed the decision of the Eoghan Rua club to play in the Antrim league.

Rogan feels that it will benefit the club and Derry hurling in general as Eoghan Rua will now be playing against their own standard.

The club had been out of their depth in the senior league, while they proved too strong for the reserve league, but the move to the Antrim competition will benefit everyone.

"I think what Eoghan Rua are doing by competing in Antrim is a great decision," Rogan told the County Derry Post. "Twelve or 14 competitive matches a year at club level is the right way to go, and they weren't getting that in Derry in the reserve league.

"There are loads of clubs doing the same thing, clubs from Armagh, Down and even Tyrone are joining in with the Antrim teams, so its not just Eoghan Rua. At the end of the day it's what makes sense for teams looking to push on and develop their hurling."
