Brennan opposed to paying managers

Derry manager John Brennan
Derry supremo John Brennan has voiced his opposition to the idea of managers being paid - legitimately or otherwise.

Speaking after his side beat Down to qualify for the McKenna Cup final, the veteran coach said on the subject which has been in the news since Paraic Duffy released his discussion document last Tuesday: "I don't think it should be raised in the manner it has been raised.

"If it was the case, I should be charging you money for standing here. But I'm here for the good of the game and the good of the team. I'm a GAA man."

However, Brennan said he could understand why people would be in favour of managers being paid.

"There are people getting hundreds of thousands in Croke Park." He claimed.

"My job is to put a team out to entertain very good GAA supporters. Managers are all good people and we do a lot of hard work. Everyone knows the economics in Ireland - there is no money for anybody. So I think in this day it's a stupid thing to bring up."
