St Oliver Plunkett's GAC Greenlough Club Notes

January 23, 2012
Youth Presentation Night - Change of date
Due to Derry reaching the McKenna Cup final, which will be played on Saturday night, 28th January, and club members as well as special guests being unable to attend because of this, we have had to postpone our youth presentation night until next Saturday the 4th February at 8.30pm.

To recognize the hard work and efforts of all of our under players, parents, coaches and managers over the last year, St Oliver Plunkett's GAC, Greenlough are now hosting an underage presentation night on Saturday 4th February 2012, at 8.30pm (directly after mass) in our newly refurbished club function room, in the Pavilion.

All parents and underage players, from under 8, up to under 16, are ask to please come along and join in the celebration. Every player will receive an award from our guest speaker to recognize their participation with the club during 2011, while our Under 16 team, who won their league, will be presented with their medals and trophy. The Under 16 player of the year award will also be presented on the night. There will also be light refreshments served on the night.

Presentation Night a great Success
The club held their annual presentation night on Saturday 21st January 2012, to recognise the achievements and hard work of the 2011 season. The awards were held in the newly refurbished club rooms, with a large crowd attending to join in the celebrations.

Following the meal, Greenlough chairman Paul Bradley made a short speech thanking everyone for their hard work over the past 12 months, including players, managers, club referees, grounds man Jimmy Kane, and the out going committee, as well as the caterers for the night Arbutus, Kilrea, before quickly moving onto the presentations.

The first presentation of the night was for Minor player of the year, and the presentation of the Louis McAlynn memorial trophy was made by Damien McAlynn to award winner Mark Tohill. The next award was the presentation of the Declan Toner memorial trophy for most Improved player of the year, and this was presented by Marie Toner, to Liam Quinn, who received the award on behalf of his brother Paul, who is currently in Australia.

Honorary club President Fr Oliver Crilly presented the next award to Conor Madden for the Reserve player of the year, before the final Player award of the night, the Barry O'Neill Memorial trophy for Senior player of the year, was presented by Brigid O'Neill to current Derry Senior player Enda Lynn, amazingly the first time Enda had received the award despite his high-achieving football career to date.

The final award of the night, and the most prestigious, was the club person of the year award. After a glowing praise of her work throughout 2011, Paul announced that Jean Connolly had been chosen to receive the accolade, and was presented with the award by Fr Crilly. A presentation of flowers was made to Mrs Brigid O'Neill and Mrs Marie Toner by committee member Sheila Kearney, before Paul thanked everyone for coming, and introduced the Chanters, who provided the entertainment for the rest of the night.
