Alan Reidy RIP
It was with great sadness that the club learned of the death of Alan Reidy who had played in goals on the team that won the 1993 junior championship. He played intermediate championship the following year reaching the semi final. Soon after he was transferred from Athlone to Dublin by his employer, Dunnes Stores. He subsequently moved to Cork where his untimely death occurred. He was an excellent player and was also a good friend to the club. Deepest sympathies are extended to his wife and family. Go ndeana Dia trocaire are a anam.

Division 3
Garrycastle 1.11 Ballinagore. 1.13
The Division 3 team travelled on Sunday morning to play Ballinagore's first team.
Numbers were low again due to injuries and work commitments. With most of the players having played the evening before for the Division 5 team it was going to be a hard task to get a result. Garrycastle were 9 points to 3 up after 20 minutes with some fine points from Paul O'Donavan and midfielders Johnny McGuire and Neil Rattigan. Garrycastle were on top in most positions. The team were then hit hard with injuries losing Sean Carey, Johnny McGuire and Paul Gunning who had to move into full forward and play with his injury as there were no subs to bring on. These injuries disrupted the team who began to struggle and lose the initiative. Gradually Ballinagore fought their way back into the game and gained the upperhand. To their credit the Garrycastle players never gave up the fight and just fell short in the end.
Team: Mark Keenan, Sean Carey , Anthony Larkin, Ben Kennedy , Enda Keena, Emmet Ward,
Garry Mullery,Johnny McGuire (1point), Neil Rattigan (1 point), Paul gunning (1 point), Seanie O Donaghue , Brian Mc Cormack (1 point), Paul Dunning (3 points), Cathal Mannion (1 goal 3 points), Mark Denby.Subs Richie Byrne for Sean Carey, Padraig Cosgrove (1point) for Johnny McGuire.

Garrycastle u10s had a fantastic evening out in Castledaly on Tuesday 9th. We were delighted to have a panel of 30, which meant we were able to field 3 teams. Each of our 3 teams performed brilliantly in all matches and were a credit to our club. All 30 players got loads of game time and enjoyed very competitive matches against teams from Maryland/Tang, Moate, Castledaly and Rosemount. Our hard work in training is really starting to pay off. The tackling, blocking, passing , decision making and score taking really was a joy to watch. This talented and determined panel of players are continuing to improve with every week. We will continue to have fun and train hard and we look forward to our next blitz. Thanks to Castledaly GAA for a very enjoyable evening. Garrycastle panel included Cian Norris, Oisin O'Donoghue, Christopher Malone, Daniel Stankard, Dylan Frawley, James McHugh, Aaron Keegan, Andrew Henson, Tyreece Quinn, Keelan Ward, Rhys Larkin, Luke Quilty, Dylan Maloney, Calum Hudson, Van McCay, Darragh Glennon, Senan Nugent, Níadh Shine, Oisin Mulvihill, Keelan McNamara, Louie Shine, Jack Dowling, Jack Dolan, Conor McCormack, Ronan Croughan, James Derwin, Maireid McBride, Fionn McMahon, Rían Gaynor, Darren Mulligan.

Garrycastle 5-11 Multyfarnham 1-03
Our U14s gathered another 2 league points last Thursday evening with a comprehensive win at home V Multyfarnham. In what was a very good team performance where all the lads played very well they were in command right from the throw in and never gave Multyfarnham a chance to get into the game by constant tackling, defending and some excellent running off the ball in support of a team mate. With a few players still to join up with the panel this year the team work and work ethic on the field is encouraging.
Panel: Tadgh McKiernan,Frank McKiernan,John McBride,Frano Derwin,Ben Kilkenny,Peter Mulvihill,Adam Mulvihill,Bill Carmody,John Dylan O'Shea,Cian McCarthy,Chris Kehoe,Andrew Ruane,Stephen Gaffey,Corey Nugent,Ben Donegan,Brian Mulvihill.

GARRYCASTLE 3-8 CAULRY 1-12
Going into this division 2 league game in Garrycastle last Wednesday evening, both sides had won all of their games, Caulry with 4 wins from 4 and Garrycastle with 3 wins from 3. Garrycastle made a positive start and mounted a number of attacks, however, they could not convert any of these into scores. Meanwhile Caulry showed more composure when presented with scoring opportunities and had a point in the 3rd minute and a goal from a penalty soon after. The visitors continued to show some nice touches and had stretched their lead to six points by the 8th minute. Garrycastle finally got on the scoreboard in the 10th minute with a good point from a Jason Nugent free when he was fouled close to goal. Eoin Mulvihill then added to this with a well taken point for the home side. Caulry responded with two points of their own to restore their advantage. Jason Nugent took advantage of a good pass to fire over a point from play at the mid-point of the half. However, Caulry added three points, all of which were from play, to increase their lead to 8 points as the half time whistle approached. However, Garrycastle had another point from a Jason Nugent free in the final minute to leave the score-line 1-8 to 0-4 in favour of Caulry at the break.
Garrycastle introduced Joe Carmody for the second half, with Eoin Mulvihill moving to midfield. Garrycastle pressed forward and narrowed the gap with yet another pointed free from Jason Nugent. Caulry had a point but Andrew Monaghan pointed in reply for Garrycastle. The teams exchanged points, the Garrycastle effort coming from substitute, Joe Carmody in the 44th minute. The game was thrown wide open soon after when Jack O'Connor took possession following good approach play to fire a goal for Garrycastle and leave just 3 points between the sides. Joe Carmody then added a good point for Garrycastle to leave just two between them. Soon after his introduction as a substitute, Oisin Langan, fired Garrycastle into the lead for the first time with a well struck shot and a minute later the same player fired his second and Garrycastle's third goal and put the home side into a five point lead with a bit less than 10 minutes remaining. Garrycastle did retreat somewhat at this stage but used their possession well and despite a couple of late points for Caulry held out for a vital win. The final score 3-8 to 0-12 in Garrycastle's favour.
Overall this was a fine win for the Garrycastle lads, but they had to fight back after a disjointed first half performance and showed great character to claw their way back into the game and secure a vital win. The defence played well as a unit, restricting Caulry to just one goal and that coming from a penalty. Matias O'Neill, Cillian Lyons, Colm Lynch, Shane Duffy and Eoin Mulvihill showing up well throughout. Andrew Monaghan has a good hour in midfield for his side. The forward division showed their potential in the second period, when given the right kind of ball and both Joe Carmody and Oisin Langan contribute well taken scores after their introduction. If the lads can continue to show similar battling characteristics and skill in their remaining games they can push for league honours.
GARRYCASTLE: Matthew McBride, Robert Kelly, Matias O'Neill, Cillian Lyons, Colm Lynch, Shane Duffy, Conor Macken, Dara Mulvihill, Andrew Monaghan (0-1), Dylan Keegan, Jack O'Connor (1-0), Brian Ruane, Philip Monaghan, Jason Nugent (0-4, 3f), and Eoin Mulvihill (0-1).
SUB: Joe Carmody (0-2) for Dara Mulvihill (Half time); Oisin Langan (2-0) for P Monaghan (45min). Not used: Patrick McKiernan, Jack Fitzgerald, Eoin Kenny, Ian Carroll and Tommy Devery.
