Garrycastle 2-09 Tyrellspass 2-03.
Our U14s played their first game in this year's league on Thursday night last against Tyrellspass in Garrycastle. Having to field a very young side including some under 12s due to the unavailability of some of our older players the team gave a great performance and played some excellent football throughout in a very entertaining game before eventually losing 2-09 to 2-03 to the physically stronger Tyrellspass Team. On the night where all the team played there part there were impressive performances in particular from Bill Carmody, John McBride, Frank McKiernan, Brian Mulvihill, Conor Sheehan, Adam Mulvihill, Andrew Ruane and Ben Donegan.
Under 16
Garrycastle under 16s recorded two good league wins in recent weeks against Northern Gaels and Inny Gaels, two combination teams.
Garrycastle v Northern Gaels
Garrycastle got their league campaign up and running with a good win over Northern Gaels. After a start in which we conceded two goals Garrycastle tightened things up and went on to play some super football for the remainder of the game. The midfield pairing of Daniel McManus and Dylan Keegan gave us a strong platform to build attacks with both Andrew Monaghan and Darragh Kenna combining excellently with the younger forwards. Garrycastle ran out comfortable winners in the end.
Inny Gaels v Garrycastle.
Garrycastle made the journey to Bunbrosna on Monday evening and ran out comfortable winners. Again the lads played some excellent football moving the ball quickly into the forwards where the excellent Shane Coffey led the way with some great finishing and he was ably assisted by Tommy Devery (2 great goals) ,Ryan Cornally and Andrew Monaghan.
The second half saw Garrycastle notch up some great scores and with the defence superbly marshalled by Daniel Guinan and Diarmuid Carey combined with an excellent Eric Rogers penalty save, the opposition found it hard to work scores.
Garrycastle have made a strong start to the league and will hope to build on this in the next few weeks. The team will play a number of challenges in the next few weeks and with the excellent Anthony Cunningham offering guidance and assistance we are sure to see this team improve even further
