> both shots miss their target. Ballymore opened their account with two
> points either side of the home team missing two chances themselves.
> Mark Kearney collected a kick out and worked the ball up the pitch
> exchanging passes with Ciarán Henson before MJ McLoughlin sent a sharp
> pass through the defence for David Stone to score his first goal of
> the day. Ballymore rallied and added three points in succession
> before their goal gave them the lead for the first time. Castledaly
> saw their chance to shorten the advantage and McLoughlin again showing
> sharpness with free-kick after David Stone and Justin Coughlan created
> the opening chance. Coughlan gathered the resulting kick out and set
> through McLoughlin to add another point
> from play. An unfortunate clash involving Shane Fitzpatrick saw the
> young full back injured and replaced by evergreen Niall O'Neill.
> Ballymore extended their two point lead to three and four before
> Castledaly saw a goal chance saved and McLoughlin wisely taking the
> point from play. McLoughlin turned provider and his pass to Ken
> Larkin saw the sparkling number 14 take a well earned point.. Shane
> Dolan Niall O'Neill Ciarán Henson Justin Coughlan Jason Bradley were
> in fine form in defence but the Ballymore attack seemed to find space
> and pace when needed most. Ciarán Henson also found opportunity to
> support attack but his only shot for score went narrowly wide off
> target. Ballymore also missed a number of scoring chances due to
> Castledaly strong defending but they added two further points before
> Ken Larkin added a well taken goal, carving infield and drive a
> thunderous shot past the goalkeeper. David Stone again added to this
> quota as he capitalised on McLoughlin creativity. Kevin Stone found
> himself in space to create a goal chance but a misjudged tackle
> delivered a penalty instead, which was well taken by MJ McLoughlin and
> another goal for the home team and retrieve the lead with minutes
> remaining on the time clock.
> Justin Coughlan added to Castledaly lead to two points but Ballymore
> were far from beaten and they bundled a goal chance across the line to

> ACFL Division 1
> Castledaly 2_13 Athlone 3_14 final score
> Two early Athlone goals in as many minutes caught the home team
> napping, before Lorcan Dolan began the fight back, with three points
> from play from David Stone and Kevin Stone. a Gordon Duffy midfield
> mark gave Kevin Stone his chance, before Derek Heavin Paul Costello
> clearance gave David Stone a chance to dink through a crowded defence
> and rifle his shot to the back of the net.
> Kevin Stone found the space to increase the home team lead with
> another well taken point from the youngster while Lorcan Dolan won and
> scored a free kick from the wide right side. Gordon Duffy again
> turned creator and Paul Kelly enjoyed the fruits with a score to lead
> 1_07 to 2_00
> In defence Castledaly were more settled but time and again Shane Dolan
> Ciarán Henson Justin Coughlan Darragh Kelly were called on to clear
> danger, while emergency goalkeeper Liam Fitzpatrick was also kept busy
> clearing a flurry of chances. in midfield Paddy Holloway was enjoying
> a physical encounter with both sides upping their game with a win on
> their mind. Athlone did find some form and added points from play and
> free kicks, but also a number of missed chances from close range as
> the prevailing wind made itself felt. Half Time arrived with the
> scores reading 1-.7 to 2.05
> The second half began at quarter past noon with a bright sunny chill
> keeping supporters wrapped up despite the thermometer reading.
> Athlone added two points before sub MJ Magill McLoughlin and Ciarán
> Henson did the hard work while Paul Kelly tapped over a fine score,
> found in space by a McLoughlin trademark cross field accurate pass
> Lorcan Dolan continued to torment the visitors defence and another
> foul won free kick was dispatched by Kevin Stone. Athlone replied
> with a point and could have extended their score but for a well saved
> shot by Liam Fitzpatrick. A high ball into the Castledaly forward
> line saw Ken Larkin rise highest to win possession and his pass to
> Dolan again saw the county man fouled, this time kicking the free kick
> himself to trail by the minimal point. with ten minutes gone in the
> second half.
> Athlone struck back with a goal and four points unanswered in ten
> minutes before Castledaly saw another result, Gordon Duffy winning
> possession storming forward and winning the free kick, Dolan again on
> target. Francie Rushe subbed for Derek Heavin with Ken Larkin taking
> up defensive duties, and the young player showed great vision spotting
> Lorcan Dolan in dangerous territory and his accurate pass allowed his
> experienced colleague to find the eye of the needle and score his
> home team's second goal and trail by four points. Castledaly added
> two further points with MJ McLoughlin and Kevin Stone combining from
> play before the youngest Stone sibling added a free kick from a well
> won attack. As the game grew more physical and fiery, both teams were
> reduced to fourteen as tackles flew in with less accuracy, but Athlone
> added to the scoreboard and won through with final score Castledaly
> 2-13 to Athlone 3-14
> Castledaly will regret missed chances and some early lack of
> concentration in defence but with a significant number of players
> unavailable, the team that took to the field did themselves proud and
> kept the Athlone challenge in reach until the last minutes, especially
> some players playing the second competitive game in three days.
> Team Liam Fitzpatrick, Shane Dolan, Derek Heavin, Daragh Kelly, M J
> Kelly, Ciarán Henson, Justin Coughlan, Paddy Holloway, Gordon Duffy,
> Paul Kelly, Paul Costello, Kevin Stone, Lorcan Dolan, Ken Larkin,
