News Flash: Easter Skills Camp

Mullingar Shamrocks Underage Section are holding an Easter Skills Camp during the school break for all our age groups from under-6 to Under-14, Boys and Girls (Unfortunately we have to confine this to our own club members). The Camp will cover all aspects of Gaelic football including skills, fitness, mini-games and top quality coaching each day.

The Camp will take place from Wednesday 19 April to Friday 21 April from 11.00 am to 3.00pm; the under-6s will have a shorter day. A registration fee of €40 per child will apply to cover cost of training gear and a pizza party at the end of the Camp.

The Camp will be coordinated by the club's Coaching Officer, Robbie Boyle (087-6405000). Early booking is advisable as places are limited.

Last Man Standing

It was a weekend of carnage for contestants in Our Last Man Standing Competition based on the National Football League. Before a ball was thrown in on Saturday thirty-eight entrants had survived to the fifth round stage. At the final whistle on Sunday evening the numbers were whittled down. The two most popular choices Mayo (11) and Cork (6) failed to deliver for their faithful and Laois (3) and Tyrone (2) also disappointed their believers. Those who supported Limerick (5), Westmeath (3), Tipperary and Monaghan (2) as well as Galway and Longford (1) were rewarded for their confidence and survived for another day.  In the next round Dublin (v Roscommon) carry the hopes of 10 runners whilst Armagh (6) and Kerry (3) are the next most popular choices. Six more people have chosen six different counties; this could go to a penalty shoot-out.

Minor Football League

No joy for our minor footballers on Sunday morning at Garrycastle as they lost out to the home side on a 1-10 to 1-4 scoreline in a match played in very difficult conditions.

Mullingar Shamrocks: Killian White; Brian Reidy, Daragh White, Peter Bane; Mark Eivers, Conor Fitzpatrick, Cian Fox; Cormac Darby and Dillon Matthews; Brandon Heffernan, Kenneth O'Reilly, Cian Roe; Matthew Maslin, Sean Whiley, John O'Reilly.

St Patrick's Day Parade

Many thanks to all those who turned out for the St Patrick's Day parade in weather conditions that were most unpleasant to put it mildly: to the passinate club members who organised all that needed to be organised, to the mentors and coaches who were there to supervise and lead and to the parents who made the sacrifice and brought in their young boys and girls to walk behind the Shamrocks banner and showcased what our club has to offer, many thanks.

Ladies Football

Great 4-18 to 1-5 win for the Carole Finch managed Westmeath minor girls team in the Leinster Championships with Melek Fagan starring at corner back. Anna Jones was a second-half goal scoring substitute and Michelle Morris a member of the panel.
Well done to all ...

The Late Mary Hynes

The Mullingar Shamrocks club expresses sincere sympathy to John Hynes on the death of Mary, his wife and to Mary's sons, Seán, Gerard, Kieran; her daughters Maureen, Ber and Anne; grand-children, Aisling, Rebecca, Cormac, Sean Óg, Peter, Eve and Rachel and to the members of the extended Hynes family.

The Hynes family has had a long association with the club and Seán is the current under-age secretary of Mullingar Shamrocks; the Hynes' playing tradition with Mullingar Shamrocks is continued with some style by the grand-children, Cormac, Sean Óg, Peter and Eve.

May She Rest in Peace.
