(after extra-time)

Waterford required extra-time to see off the challenge of UL in the last eight of the McGrath Cup at Carraiganore yesterday.

With Tipperary's Alan Moloney prominent, the students seized the early advantage but two points apiece from Paul Whyte, Darren Guiry and Gavin Nugent saw the sides go in level at 0-6 each at the break.

Gary Hurney - who accounted for five points of the home side's final tally - edged Waterford in front but UL finished strongest and were rewarded with a brace of points from substitute Denis Keohane as the full-time whistle approached.

Tony Grey sent over an injury-time point to send the fixture into extra-time.

With Hurney to the fore, Waterford established a 0-13 to 0-11 lead by the end of the first period of extra-time and they kept the students at bay during the second period to set up a semi-final clash with Tipperary.
