A second half rally that yielded an impressive 1-15 saw Kilmessan see off the challenge of Clann Na nGael in this Senior Hurling Championship Group A clash played in sweltering conditions at Lomans Park Trim.

Clann Na nGael had the better of the opening half and led by 1-11 to 0-12 at the break. Eamon O Donnchadha was outstanding in this period for the Athboy Rathcairn combination. The half forward hit six points and gave the Kilmessan rearguard numerous problems. Sean Reilly was on hand to finish O Donnchadha cross to the Kilmessan goal midway through the half and Clann na nGael held an early 1-3 to 0-3 lead.
With ten minutes remaining that goal still separated the teams but with in a five minute spell Kilmessan were in front courtesy of points from Steven Clynch, Seanie Doyle, Darren Reilly and Kevin Reilly. It was Clann Na nGael who finished the half in style and three pointed frees from O Donnchadha gave them a two point interval lead.
Whatever the Kilmessan management team of Paul Reilly and Anton O'Neill had to say to their charges at the break certainly worked as Kilmessan came out a totally different team.
Darren Reilly and O Donnchadha traded points before Kilmessan took complete control. In a twenty minute spell they scored 1-10 without reply. Fine points from Doyle, Clynch, Kevin Keena, Charlie Keena and Reilly along with a Seanie Doyle goal put them in the clear.
Clann Na nGaels only response was a point from O Donnchadha as Kilmessan closed out the game with a brace from Clynch and one each from Darren and Kevin Reilly.
