SFC: O'Mahonys beat Seneschalstown to top group

O'Mahonys maintained their winning ways in the hoganstand.com SFC to finish on top of Group C with a narrow win over Seneschalstown at Pairc Tailteann on Saturday evening.

Navan O'Mahonys withstood a late charge to secure their fourth win from as many starts while consigning Seneschalstown to their first defeat of the campaign.

David Nelson's men led by 0-11 to 1-3 after 48 minutes. Though failing to register thereafter they restricted Seneschalstown to just three scores in the time remaining.

Seneschalstown's best chance of salvaging something from this fixture came in the 51st minute, but Adam Gleeson sent a goal attempt from close range wide.

Points from substitutes Shane Clarke and former O'Mahonys' player David Hosie completed the scoring with the allocated three minutes of stoppage time expired.

O'Mahonys were never headed but the sides were level for a short while after Brian Sheridan goaled in the 25th minute when fisting Mark Carey's delivery from the stand side to the town goal.

The Brews Hill side hit back with the next two scores and remained in front to the end.

Sean Keating and county player Alan Forde shared six points from play between them from play Only one of the winners' scores came from a free which Jake Regan registered in the last act of the opening half. Seneschalstown had two such scores.

O'Mahonys opened their scoring with a brace of fisted points at the hospital end with Sean Keating and Alan Forde registering.

In between those scores wing-back James Byrne got Seneschalstown off the mark from close range. Then there was a break in play for a leg injury incurred by Shane McKeigue.

By the 24th minute it was 0-4 to 0-1 to the town side with points from Keating and a fine effort from Stephen Bray.

The scores were tied for the second time when Brian Sheridan punched a Mark Carey delivery to the O'Mahonys net.

O'Mahonys responded by outscoring Seneschalstown by 0-3 to 0-1 over the remainder of the half that included seven minutes of stoppage time.

Forde posted two of those O'Mahonys' scores while Brian Clarke landed a long range free for Seneschalstown. Injury-time had almost expired when Regan sent over a 45-metre free to leave it 0-7 to 1-2 at the break.
