Cortown's Gary Coyne
St Colmcilles 1-10 Cortown 0-10 Cortown bowed out of this years Intermediate Football Championship following a goal defeat by St Colmcilles in this Preliminary Quarter Final played under lights in Simonstown on Tuesday night. Cortown deservedly led by four points - 0-7 to 0-3 - at half time and looked to be in control of the game. However Colmcilles came out strongly for the second half and stunned Cortown with three early points before the losers finally got going again with a point by Breen Smith. The defining score fell to Colmcilles who scored a scrambled goal in the 16th minute to give them the lead for the first time, which they never relinquished. The scores for Cortown dried up and while they had a number of chances wayward shooting let them down. With time just up they had the chance of an equaliser to gain extra time but the ball was balooned harmlessly wide and their chance of returning to the Senior grade was gone for another year, while the winners progress to meet Dunderry on next Sunday in the Quarter Final proper. Best for Cortown were Mark Casserly, John Casserly, Glenn Loughran, Breen Smith, Gary Coyne and Brian Casserly.
