Damien Sheridan of Seneschalstown powers forward during the Commons Hardware SFC quarter-fnal win over Skryne
Seneschalstown 2-15 Skryne 1-10 Seneschalstown overpowered Skryne in the first of Sunday's Commons Hardware SFC quarter-finals at Pairc Tailteann where they secured a last four place with a first-half scoring blitz. Taking full advantage of the breeze blowing towards the town goal, Seneschalstown set about dismantling Skryne from the off and might have led by more than 2-10 to 0-3 at the interval but for shooting seven first-half wides. Joe Sheridan was central to Seneschalstown early scores - points from Shane Clarke (free) and Brian Sheridan. The county player also sent a goal attempt that went left and wide. Midway through the half it was 0-6 to 0-1 with points from Brian Clarke and Finnegan arriving in quick succession around the mid-point. In the midst of that early barrage of Seneschalstown scores, Kevin Mulvaney sent a goal attempt wide for Skryne while it took an Ian Davis free to open their account. The opening goal arrived in the 16th minute with Gary Conlon providing the assist for Brian Clarke to fire to the Skryne net. It was quickly followed by Finnegan's second point. Two minutes later Joe Sheridan found wing-back Mark Carey in space in front of the Skryne goal and it was 2-7 to 0-1. Further scores from Finnegan and Shane Clarke left it 2-9 to 0-1 22 minutes in. Kevin Mulvaney hit the crossbar with another Skryne goal attempt but when the ball was recycled Ian Davis was on hand to send over his side's first score from play. There was still time for another Seneschalstown first-half score with Brian Sheridan pointing. Within a minute of the restart James Hegarty pulled a point back for Skryne with a magnificent effort from the right wing. The tempo dropped significantly in the third quarter with the next score from play arriving in the 46th minute courtesy of Skryne substitute Brian Davis and it was 0-6 to 2-12. Two minutes later a misplaced Joe Cowley pass allowed Kevin Mulvaney to tap the ball to the Seneschalstown net and the scoreboard began to look more respectable from Skryne's perspective. Two Joe Sheridan points were the highlights of the latter stages what saw Skryne close out the scoring with three unanswered points. David McGoldrick sent over the final point from a '45' after David Lyons saved another Kevin Mulvaney goal attempt. Meanwhile, in the other quarter-final on Sunday's double-bill at Pairc Tailteann Stephen Kennedy's sixth minute goal earned last year's runners-up Summerhill a 1-11 to 0-11 win over St Patrick's.
