Killoe Ladies capture Leinster title

October 23, 2008
Killoe 2-8 Railyard 1-8 Killoe Ladies are the Leinster Intermediate Club Champions after a stirring second-half performance at Geraldine Park, Athy, last Sunday saw them overcome Kilkenny champions Railyard by three points in the competition's final. After trailing by four points at the break, Orlaith Doherty's goal five minutes into the restart proved the key for Killoe in collecting the provincial honours. The Kilkenny women took in a 1-6 to 1-2 lead thanks mainly to Marie Dargan, who converted a penalty for Railyard ten minutes in along with striking over some fine points. Sharon Treacy put a point in the difference for Killoe with a major of her own, but Dragan's singles put four in the difference at the interval. Doherty netted minutes into the resumption and from there Killoe never looked back, as Dargan's frustration led her to a sin-binning, while Lizzie Brady, Sabrina Hackett and substitute Ann Marie Brady all knocked over the points that led the Longford women to the title.
