Intermediate Football Championship - Quarter Final
First Half Display gets Sean Finns to Semis (Sean Finns 1-14, Oola 2-07)
Sean Finns overcame the challenge of Oola in the Quarter Final of the Limerick Intermediate Football championship in Clarina last Saturday evening. Played in ideal condition, with Mike Mann of Ballybrown in charge, the game was a great spectacle. Sean Finns looked very impressive in the opening half, when they opened up a ten point interval lead, but they had to dig deep to withstand a spirited come-back from Oola after the interval before eventually falling over the endline grateful for the 4 point gap.
The game opened at a helter-skelter pace, with a well worked point from Mark O'Sullivan inside the first 60 seconds. This was quickly cancelled out by an Oola free. Sean Finns displayed some lovely pacey football, rattled off the next four scores in wonderful fashion, (Sean Sheahan - point, Eoghan O Connor - goal, Keith Harnett - 2 points). Oola replied with a point on th 16th minute. For te remaining 14 minutes, a six point blitz from Sean Finns had Oola reeling, Mark O'Sullivan struck two beauties, within 60 seconds of each other, followed by a pair from O'Connor, one from play and one from a free, and another pair from the impressive O'Sullivan sandwiching a single point reply from Oola saw the half-time score 1-10 to 0-03 in favour of the Rathkeale men. A feature of the first half was the running, movement and passing from the Sean Finns side.
The second half opened with Oola (to their credit) changing their structure and looking to impose their physical dominance on the game. Two Oola points on the scoreboard inside 5 minutes (one skimming over the crossbar) and two other narrowly missed goal chances and the Sean Finns side know the game was not yet over. However, they dug deep and within three minutes, they rattled off three good points from O'Sullivan(1) and Harnett(2). At this stage, Sean Finns took the foot of the gas. Howeve, Oola refused to lie down and they imposed their physical advantage to dominate the next 10 minutes. They fought back to within three points with 10 minutes remaining on the clock with 2 good gaols and a brace of points. A straight red card for their #5 after 22 minutes brought an end to their run. For the next 8 minutes, Sean Finns declined a number of golden chances to put the game beyond the reach of Oola before O'Connor eventually slotted over the last point of the game to leave 4 points between the sides. A final score of 1-14 to 2-07 was the outcome and Sean Finns had booked a coveted semi-final spot.

Semi Final this Saturday.
Its back to Clarina again this Saturday (15-Sept) at 4pm for the semi-final where we face Claughaun with a place in the county final up for grabs. We played Claughaun in the opening round of the group stages back on te 28th April and suffered a three point defeat on the day (1-09 to 0-09), so presumably Claughaun, with all their experience at the higher grades, coupled with the fact that they were unbeaten in the group stages, will be favourites to win. However we will travel in hope and are asking all our supporters to colour-up and get vocal for the semi-final.

St Marys minor hurlers make the trip to Feenagh this Tuesday (11-Sept) face Castletown/Ballyagran in the semi-final of the County Championship at 6.15pm. Please come along and support the team.
