Ulster MFC: remarkable win for Armagh

May 29, 2011
Armagh beat Down by 3-11 to 5-4 in an amazing minor championship match on Saturday evening.

Those who opted to take in the curtain-raiser on Ulster championship day at The Athletic Grounds could not have been disappointed as the young players served up a treat of attacking football.

In the end, it was the hosts who prevailed by a point, after mounting a stunning comeback.

Down had stormed into a 3-1 to 0-2 lead thanks to goals from Shay McCartan (2) and Caolan Mooney and they looked unbeatable as they led by ten points, 5-1 to 0-6, with McCartan completing his hat-trick and Shay McArdle adding another three-pointer.

But a Paul Og Grant goal gave Armagh hope and Michael McKenna's major brought them right back into the frame before Paul McGeown clinched victory with a dramatic late penalty.
