McKenna Cup: Gibbons earns Donegal a first win

Conor Gibbons' late pointed free gave Donegal a first win of the year at the expense of St Mary's in MacCumhaill Park last night.

The All-Ireland champions again fielded a second string side and the exchanges were tight in the first half.

The students led by 2-5 to 1-7 at the end of the opening 35 minutes thanks to goals from Brendan Herron (penalty) and Ronan Sexton.

St Mary's extended their lead with two points soon after the resumption but late points from Ross Wherity and Gibbons saw Donegal finish in front.
