Murray may face 12-week ban

May 13, 2003
Cork football manager Larry Tompkins, still reeling after his side's crushing defeat against Limerick, could well be without Fionan Murray until August as he is facing a 12-week suspension. Murray was involved in an incident with Limerick captain Muiris Gavin, who was impeding his path as he prepared to take a free, and if the Cork forward is reported for kicking, he could be suspended for 12 weeks. Murray is no stranger to red cards and this was his third time to be sent off inside a year, though his red card against Kerry in last year's All-Ireland semi-final was later rescinded. He was sent off against Kerry for two yellow cards at the start of this year's league, but was later banned for eight weeks after being reported for verbals towards a match official.
