Minor footballers face All-Ireland champions

May 11, 2012
Cork will face All-Ireland champions Tipperary for a place in the Munster MFC final in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Wednesday night.

Usually, the Rebels would be expected to win this fixture, but Tipperary football has improved beyond recognition as last year's sensational Tom Markham Cup success testifies. The Premier County have an excellent recent record against Cork in minor football, and will fancy their chances of reaching the provincial final after making light work of Kerry's challenge in the first round in Tralee.

Cork had an easy time of it against Limerick in their first round tie and afterwards their manager Ephie Fitzgerald was under no illusions about the task awaiting them against Tipp.

"We have assembled a strong panel and I would like to think the players' confidence will improve having got a win under the belt, as they were quite nervous before the game against Limerick," he said.

"That's always the case when you start out with minors, but I'm satisfied we will be ready to put it up to Tipperary, especially since we will be playing at home."
